Gyprock Aquachek 10mm offers the same moisture resistance and tile weight capacity, now in a lighter board that is easier to work with. The 10mm wall and ceiling plasterboard is designed as the perfect lining for wet areas in residential applications. Product Overview The core, face and back of Gyprock Aquachek 10mm are treated to make it resistant to moisture and humidity without compromising integrity. It is specifically designed for use as a wall and ceiling lining in wet areas of residential buildings. It can be easily identified by its blue coloured face paper. Gyprock Aquachek 10mm is manufactured to meet or exceed the requirements of water-resistant grade gypsum plasterboard as per AS/NZ 2588 Gypsum Plasterboard and satisfies the requirements of the Building Code of Australia for wet area wall linings in residential buildings when installed according to Gyprock installation guides. Refer to Australian Standard AS3740 - Waterproofing of Wet Areas in Residential Buildings for additional requirements. Typical Applications In residential projects Gyprock Aquachek 10mm is ideal for use in bathrooms, laundries, ensuites, toilets and protected external ceilings like soffits and verandahs. Because Aquachek 10mm is not subject to moisture movement and has extremely low water absorption characteristics, it provides an excellent, stable substrate for ceramic tiles. Tested Moisture Performance Gyprock wet area plasterboard products are manufactured with special additives to enhance the moisture resistance of their core. The additives also permeates the face and back paper of the board, delivering superior performance in wet area and high humidity applications. Water resistance Water resistance is tested by submerging a sample of plasterboard in a body of water for two hours. Surface water resistance Surface water resistance testing sees the plasterboard sample weighed pre-and-post surface exposure to water. Aquachek or Villaboard? What is better for you?

Aquachek and Villaboard are both types of fibre cement sheeting used in the construction industry, especially in wet areas. The choice between the two depends on several factors such as the specific requirements of your project, the availability of the product, the preferred brand, and any particular features you may need.

Aquachek:

  • Produced by CSR Gyprock, Aquachek is a gypsum-based plasterboard that is water-resistant.
  • It is specifically designed for use in areas of high humidity or where occasional water contact is likely.
  • Aquachek is typically used for lining walls and ceilings in bathrooms, showers, laundries, and toilets.
  • It's easier to cut and work with compared to fibre cement products, resembling the workability of regular plasterboard but with added moisture resistance.Villaboard

Villaboard:

  • Manufactured by James Hardie, Villaboard is a fibre cement sheet product.
  • It is highly moisture-resistant and is particularly suitable for use in wet areas where the walls are to be tiled.
  • Villaboard is denser and more durable than Aquachek, providing excellent resistance to damage in wet environments.
  • It is also commonly used as an underlay for tiles due to its rigidity and dimensional stability.

Both products serve as excellent options for areas that will be exposed to moisture, but Villaboard's fibre cement composition typically offers a higher level of durability and resistance to impact, moisture, and termite damage than the gypsum-based Aquachek. However, Aquachek may be easier to cut and install due to its similarity to regular plasterboard.

When deciding between Aquachek and Villaboard, consider the specific conditions of the area you are renovating or building. For environments that will be constantly wet or need to bear the weight of heavy wall tiles, Villaboard may be the better choice. For general moisture resistance in wet but less intense environments, Aquachek could suffice. Always check the manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations for the best results.
